Mediation is a process for resolving disputes in which the mediator, as a neutral, non-judgemental third part, assists the parties to reach their own voluntary agreement.  Mediation in business and personal life is not new.  People have been appealing to a third party to help them settle differences for centuries.  As parents, we often mediate in disputes between our children.  

Unlike other forms of resolving disputes, such as arbitration and adjudication, mediation does not impose a binding outcome on the parties in dispute. Rather the mediator will work with both parties to facilitate them in agreeing a course of action that is acceptable to both of them.

The advantages of mediation are its speed, flexibility and relative cost. It is also completely confidential. 

As people look for easier and cheaper methods of resolving their differences so mediation is becoming more popular.  The courts are also encouraging people to mediate before resorting to legal action.

The success rate in civil and commercial mediation is high - typically around 80%. 

 I trained as a civil and commercial mediator with Stitt Feld Handy Group of Canada in 2006 and is accredited by ADR Chambers (UK) Ltd.  I then returned to the South West and now practice as a civil and commercial mediator through Kingsley Consultancy and as a community mediator with Devon Mediation Service.
